Career Prospects

Distinctive Strengths of the Department of Graphic Arts and Communications

As part of the College of Technology and Engineering, the Department goes beyond a conventional focus on creative practice or social-theoretical analysis. Its curriculum and research integrate communication technologies with content production through an interdisciplinary approach, extending into technical areas such as interactive media technologies, interdisciplinary information technologies, artificial intelligence, imaging science, and color engineering. Graduates are therefore equipped with both technological literacy and the ability to integrate visual content across media platforms.

Unlike many communication-related departments that award Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Arts, or Master of Fine Arts degrees, the Department awards Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degrees.

Competitive Advantages for Students

For students with a design background:
The program strengthens their technological competencies in areas such as color science, artificial intelligence tools, and imaging engineering, enabling them to move beyond purely execution-oriented design skills and develop more differentiated technical competencies.

For students with a communication background:
The program addresses the limitations of traditional, theory-oriented communication education by providing substantial technical training in imaging technologies, media systems, and digital technologies.

For students with a science or engineering background:
The program enables students to apply their engineering and programming skills directly to high-value sectors such as digital content, virtual production, gaming, film and television, and media technology.
